Heart Patient Chainaram Still in Search of a New Life

Chainaram, a Scheduled Castes, is a resident of Gram Panchayat Panavada, Barmer district. He works as a labourer to earn a living for his family. Once Chainaram had gone to Gujarat to work as a labourer and fell ill. There his fellow workers admitted Chainaram to a private nursing home for a thorough check-up. Doctors told Chainaram that he had a hole in his heart and the treatment would cost nearly Rs 1 lakh. Chainaram returned to his village and spoke about his illness to his family.

Member of Village Struggle Committee Vishnaram Panwar sent Chainaram to LKS office. The LKS workers gave all the information to the Medical Officer In-charge of the Community Health Centre in writing. They requested the officer in-charge and the government for their support so that Chainaram’s treatment could be done free of cost as he belonged to BPL family. On this, the officer in-charge issued referral card for the doctors of cardiology department of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital belonging to Community Health Centre, Baitu, on February 28, 2008. He also suggested the doctors of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for free of cost treatment of Chainaram, and the cost to be incurred with Chief Ministers Relief Fund.

A thorough check-up of Chainaram was done on April 19, 2008, and by April 24, 2008, all the formalities of free of cost treatment of Chainaram were completed. After this a referral card was issued for the Sawai Mansingh Hospital, Jaipur. Member of Gram Sangharsh Samiti Vishnaram Panwar took Chainaram to the Sawai Mansingh Hospital. Chainaram was admitted to Sawai Mansingh Hospital on April 25, 2008.

With the support of RC Jat, Hitesh Bhai and other workers of Vatsalya, Jaipur, all formalities were completed in a day. Within seven days of Chainarams stay at the hospital, all his check-ups were carried out. While the team constituted to work on getting Chief Ministers Relief fund for Chainaram completed all the paper work. After this Chainaram was discharged from the hospital and was told that his treatment would be done after 10 days with the arrival of funds from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. RC Jat of Vatsalya was asked to help in getting nod for the release of funds. On June 23, 2008, sanction letter were received by LKS and the patient. On June 26, 2008, the patient along with his family and workers from the organisation reached SMS and Chainaram’s treatment started.

After the treatment Chainaram is still in search of a new life as he has been advised not to take up heavy works.
