Crisis and Challenges

crisis and challengesScattered and Isolated Population

The villages are settled in kilometers of radius and situated in large part of sands. The lower caste poor people generally live in outskirts of the villages. They face lots of problems in getting the basic amenities of life.

Advert Climate and Frail Ecology

The area has preponderance of sand dunes which have shifting nature and make large parts of land unproductive. High speed wind flows, water resources are scarce and temperature is high, resulting in low agricultural productivity. This poses a great challenge to human development.

Caste exploitation

There are various incidences of caste exploitation among Bhils, Meghwals and Dhadis, who are larger in number. Their social status is low, treated as untouchables of the society, and their representation in development activities is limited. They are disassociated from the mainstream of society. They live isolated in remote areas.

Degraded Status of Women

The conservative and traditional practices in society have degraded the status of women. They are silent spectators and do not play any role in decision making either in family or society. Girl child and her education are given least priority. There is a decline in sex ratio in the region. Strong need of male child has led to the persistence of the poor health status of women. High birth rate leads to large family size. Women often suffer with chronic health problems and are usually left untreated.

Poor Communication and Infrastructure

There is a lack of proper communication infrastructures in the villages. Road and telephonic connectivity are non-existent for many villages. People have to travel kilometers to catch the bus. As a result, basic needs of life such as health, education and life support system are non-existent.

Lack of Access to Government Welfare Schemes

Employment, agriculture, livestock, drinking water or health related schemes of the government are not known to rural people. Consequently, they are unable to avail the benefits of these welfare schemes. They are usually unaware of state policies related to these requirements. Many schemes are swallowed up by the nexus of bureaucrats, politician and contractor, thus making them fail to serve the purpose of the scheme.
