Health Services Restored after Floods
Sodhandio Ki Dhadi of Chandandio Ki Dhadi revenue village of gram panchayat Bandra is a Muslim dominated locality. Since, they belong to minorities, there is widespread lack of awareness and resources do not reach them. But with the efforts of some social activists leaders’ the locality has got an Aganwadi centre and a school.
The floods of 2006 changed the entire map of this locality. Most of the houses were washed away in these floods which meant that the economic condition of the people became worse. In this situation people made small makeshift houses on sand dunes and started living there. Because of the floods communication of this locality was cut off from rest of the world. This resulted in the health services, which were already poor due to superstition and lack of awareness, to worsen. Add to this, the government on its part was only supplying food on paper.
LKS and its partner organisation CEDPA took the responsibility of restoring health services in the locality through MCH services. The organisation workers constituted committees and informed people of health related problems and their solutions. Pressure was mounted on the officers of Community Health Centre (CHC) and ICDS. This made the officers of health services visit the village and acquaint themselves of its problems. On August 7, 2008, ANM and MPW sent by supervisor of ICDS and CDPO, conducted vaccination in the Anganwadi Centre in presence of the organisation workers.
With the efforts of all these involved, vaccination is carried out on every second Thursday of each month, in the Anganwadi Centre of the locality.
