On July 6, a dalit woman Ancchi Devi, wife of Papuram of Sindhari Panchayat Samiti, Dadli Dhanda went to get wheat flour at Bhanwara Ram Naai’s chakki. He put her bag in the last and called her inside to collect it. As she came Bhanwara Ram pulled her down and raped her. She cried but to no avail. Afterwards he got her out from the rear door, threw her bag and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Ancchi came home with the flour bag, did not disclose the incident, as her sister-in-law was getting married. After her marriage she told the incident to her husband who then called the panchayat. They asked them not to register the case and imposed a fine on Bhanwara Ram.

When the incident came to the knowledge of the organisation, the affected family was encouraged to register a case making the way for Bhanwara Ram’s arrest. The culprit is presently in jail.

Rupees ten thousand were given to Ancchi Devi as a financial help from Mahila Sahayata Samiti and efforts are on to get financial assistance from Social Welfare Organisation as well.
